Bin It! tour information page

I didn't realise how serious [gum litter] was
(Student response to presentation)

The Bin It! programme is supported by a touring presentation which has visited secondary schools throughout the UK and Eire. The tour aims to influence and change students' attitudes and behaviour towards gum litter to make a long-term positive change.

If your school has been recruited by the Bin It! team to receive a free engaging actor-led presentation then the information below outlines what it involves.

The presentation aims to encourage 11–13-year-olds to consider the personal, social and environmental costs of gum litter which particularly supports the Citizenship/Civic, Social and Political Education and PSHE/PSE/PSD/SPHE curricula.

Students will gain an insight into the daily life of a street-cleaner, Alex whose particular bugbear is gum litter, and they are introduced to some of the culprits responsible for dropping it.

The session is run by two actor-teachers and is designed to last one lesson. It can be delivered to a single class or larger group with a maximum of 120 students.

The audience's attitudes and beliefs are revealed and they are invited, through the use of hot-seating and role-play, to challenge them.

I thought it was good fun and the pupils thought it was good fun too. Their opinions were listened to so they felt they had an active role in it.
